Illustration Friday - Discovery

Take 1

Take 2-after some helpful suggestions.
I actually have about 3 takes on this and I still feel kind of "off" about it.
But maybe I'll just consider this a long term tweak and
work on it a year from now or something.

Speaking of discoveries, my kids have been sharing a few with me recently:

My 7 month old has discovered snorting, so he does it constantly and laughs at himself because he finds it so amusing.

My 2 1/2 year old has been frequently asking "Did you hear my bottom?! It made a noise!" and then she erupts in laughter...and so do we ;)

I feel so much younger than I did pre-kids.

For this illustration I sketched in pencil, used Photoshop and Illustrator for text and color.

I like, I like! I can totally see N in that drawing. And I love the quote.

it's very nice! I like the idea and colors. Kids do make us feel like kinds - truly!

Flatness of the background bothers me a little - may be a hint of texture behind it would ease up that feeling. (something natural like cramped paper or something typographic - letters/words - barely visible and not readable)

Thanks for sharing these!

Very sweet illo, love the quote, it is so true:)

Apple-pine: You know I was thinking the same thing. The plain flat background was not working for me, so I put the quote in there as a place holder. I did have grand visions of some sort of rhythmic graphic back there...I guess I'll get to that in between the "snorting" and "noisy bottoms"!! Thanks for the constructive feedback :)

your illo and commentary reminds me of the early years of my now grown children, thanks! I agree about the background...i'm learning more about collage, traditional and digital (haven't tried it yet), and wonder if it might be a solution? Your drawing and concept is beautifully handled, in any case!
